Welcome to The Shack

Next 'The Shack' is Saturday 6th August

The Shack is one of Sydney's live music venue gems. It recently celebrated 50 years since its inception. The Shack provides an entertaining and diverse range of both modern day and traditional quality acoustic music in a comfortable candle-lit atmosphere on the first Saturday of each month.
Technology is redefining the music experience but nothing can replace a live performance from dedicated artists.  Each month audiences can be delighted by the variety of acoustic acts it presents.  Musicians love to play at The Shack and it is difficult to accommodate the number of those who want to play.

The Shack is at The Music Lounge.

  Presenting our guests for August:

Lou Bradley and Phillip Chaffer
Lou Bradley, artist and singer-songwriter hailed from the Northern Beaches originally but is now based in Mullumbimby. Her career was helped by winning a grant for original music from John Butler. Her debut album 'Love Someone' came out of encouragement from the Chambers family and to her delighted surprise was nominated for an ARIA and has received fabulous reviews.  Her third album, 'The Other Side, was nominated for a Golden Guitar Best Alt Country Album.  Her fourth, and most recent album, is back to a grass roots style.  It was recorded with her husband, Phillip Chaffer, and Bill Chambers. To quote Lou "I believe my songs make people feel good".

Mark 'N The Blues
Take off on a journey to the deep south where the Delta blues was born, through the ages and styles from past to present. In his show Mark incorporates instruments such as the Resonator guitar with slide, Cigar Box guitar and stomp box. Mark has always had a deep seated passion and love for the acoustic blues, a passion cultivated when he met John Morris (Brother John) from the Blues Preachers who developed in him a love for songs from Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Manse Lipscombe and many others from the era. Mark is joined by Eric K Betts on blues harp and vocals to create a versatile and dynamic duo.  Eric is from the frozen prairies of Alberta, and as of the last few years has been playing Mississippi sax around Sydney with his bands The Bronze Wailers and The Investment Buskers as well as guest performer in numerous other bluegrass, country, jazz and blues outfits.  Eric was mentored by Jim Conway of Captain Matchbox and Big Wheel fame.

Glenn Cardier and Christian Marsh
Touring with Spike Milligan and opening for the likes of Harry Chapin, Frank Zappa, Sherbet, Cheech & Chong and Manfred Mann's Earth Band is not the CV of your average musician. Described as the most articulate and creatively insightful singer-songwriter in contemporary Australian music, Glenn had a successful career throughout the '70s, then 'retired' for over twenty-five years before a comeback in 2002 that has resulted so far in four acclaimed albums (Rattle The Cage, House Of Mirrors, Exiles From Eden and Stranger Than Fiction). Glenn is combining his talents with harmonica virtuoso Christian Marsh. Christian brings a fresh approach to harmonica, in any idiom he plays. As a result he has countless sessions to his credit and has played for many years with a wide cross-section of artists and bands in many musical styles. Seeing him perform opens minds to the versatility of the harmonica.
